What is the most important reason for getting an instrument rating?
Objective: I want to try to teach the students how to use an ILS/LOC approach chart.
Lesson Plan:
Hook- I will begin by trying to find audio of an aircraft going down.
Introduction- I will introduce myself and introduce my senior project and begin to explain why an ILS/LOC is necessary.
Body- I will bring out an ILS/LOC chart (Chino airport's ILS/LOC chart), I will go over each individual detail of the ILS/LOC chart and explain all the deviants to look for when looking at a chart. After I present each individual Part I will explain a missed approach procedure for the particular ILS/LOC chart.
Activity- I will have the students get into 5 groups and analyze 5 different airport's ILS/LOC approach chart and present on the various aspects of the approach.
Conclusion- I will explain how the approach is relatively to my Essential Question.
Understanding- I will check for understanding by the students presentations. If I see that the students continuously ask questions, I will put up the standard Jeppesen Example chart for understanding.
Materials needed- Elmo and a Projector, Projector connection for my computer, White board markers
